The Indiana Optometric Association (IOA) announced its 2020 award winners in April. The Optometrist of the Year is Dr. Robert Kirkpatrick, co-owner of the Eye Care Group in Madison, Indiana, and the President’s Citation - Young Optometrist of the Year is Dr. Jennifer Johnson, who practices at Moses Eyecare Center, primarily out of the Lowell and St. John offices in northwest Indiana. These awards are bestowed on members of the IOA who demonstrate not only contributions to the profession, but also service on behalf of the visual welfare of the public and service to the community at large.
Additional awards announced include the Outstanding Service in the Public Interest Award to Senator Jean Leising of Indiana District 42 and the Meritorious Service Award to Dr. Scott Miller, who practices at Norman Miller Eye Care in the Sheridan, Frankfort and Westfield offices.
The IOA also presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Stephan VanCleve, Evansville, Indiana. This award is presented to an Indiana optometrist to recognize significant and long lasting contributions to the profession of optometry. Dr. VanCleve started up the first optometric referral center in southwest Indiana, and has shared his knowledge and expertise as a mentor and political strategist.
An awards celebration is planned during the IOA Fall Seminar on October 15-16, 2020, at the Indiana Memorial Union in Bloomington.
