Indiana Optometric Association Inducts New Board Officers, Honors Doctors at Annual Convention in April

Newly inducted Indiana Optometry board officers include: Dr. Christopher Browning of Greenwood – President; Dr. Gregory Norman of Delphi – President-Elect; Dr. Damon Dierker of Indianapolis – Treasurer; Dr. Jeffrey Kirchner, West Lafayette – Secretary; and Dr. Karon Nowakowski of Muncie – Immediate Past President.

Dr. James Stewart, Muncie, was honored as the 2018 Optometrist of the Year, and Dr. Jennifer Kohn, Northwest Indiana, is the 2018 Young Optometrist of the Year. The awards are bestowed on members who demonstrate not only contributions to the profession, but also service on behalf of the visual welfare of the public and service to the community at large.

Additional awards presented at the IOA Awards Luncheon include the Optometric Educator of the Year Award to Debra McConnaha, OD, Bloomington; the Distinguished Service Award to Dennis Miller, OD, Laporte and Mishawaka; the Meritorious Service Award to Neil Gailmard, OD, Munster; and the Outstanding Service in the Public Interest Award to Jolene Bracale, Indiana Department of Education’s Director of Student Services.

The awards ceremony and election took place during Indiana Optometry’s Meeting, the 121st Annual Convention of the Indiana Optometric Association on April 13-15, 2018, at The Westin Indianapolis.
