Licensure

The purpose of licensure is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public. Only licensed individuals may practice optometry in Indiana.  The statutory requirements for professional licensing are established by the Indiana General Assembly. The Indiana Optometry Board administers and enforces the statutes and rules regulating the practice of optometry in Indiana.

2011 ROEC Study Concerning Optometry in Indiana

The Regulated Occupations Evaluation Committee (ROEC) was created by the Indiana General Assembly pursuant to IC 25-1-16. The Committee was charged with the responsibility to review and evaluate professions regulated by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency at least once every seven years. Additionally, the Committee is to make recommendations after their review and evaluation. Read a copy of the 2011 Regulated Occupations Recommendations Report.
